In the nut grove


This scene reflects ancient Indian imagery, with a woman approaching a spring – another symbol of fertility. Other fertility symbols here include pomegranates as well as grapevines, which appear in Egyptian tombs.

I went down to the nut grove, to see the budding of the vale;

To see if the vines had blossomed, if the pomegranates were in bloom.
